Useful DIY Tips for Everday Life: Shoe Polish

When the Spring season is just around the corner, I often think about how to be prepared for things: warmer weather wardrobe, Spring cleaning, severe weather season, bikini season, etc.  So I thought it would be fitting to have a series for the next few weeks for my Wednesday posts, hence the title, "Useful DIY Tips for Everyday Life."  

For the first week, I give some pointers on shoe polish.  I'll admit it seems pretty boring, but you have got to see the before and after pics of my favorite pair of flat boots!  I think it's something that many people (including myself) overlook, but can truly make a difference in leather/leather-like shoes.

Bloggers Do It Better: Red

I am beyond excited to finally participate in a Bloggers Do It Better challenge!  Kristina at Pretty Shiny Sparkly was calling on all bloggers to take part in a link-up and this time, red is the word.  Simply red.  Hmmm...red?  

Back in high school I had tons of red clothing, so ever since then, I've avoided stocking up on that color.  It was down to this ruffly top or two different dresses from past birthday celebrations.  I chose the top and decided to style a romantically chic Valentines appropriate ensemble, complete with red accessories and pearls!  And what made taking these pics even more exciting:  SNOW!  (Haven't really had too much of that here in St. Louis this season.)

Beauty Tuesdays: Makeup Brush Care + Powder Compact Tip

Cleaning and caring for your makeup brushes is very important, especially if you don't have the budget to buy new ones all the time.  I look at a brush set as an investment.  You get what you pay for.  So I don't mind spending a few extra bucks for a decent set that will last me for a while (and thank goodness for Target sets in a pinch).  Here is how I clean mine.  (Then, find out how to save your broken powder compacts!) 

Winter Remix Challenge from What I Wore

Jessica at What I Wore challenged folks to take one item from their closets and style it two different ways.  What a fun idea!  I chose to use my new dress you saw in this post.  And while my entry isn't on her site (couldn't figure out how to format the template), I wanted to post anyway!

I wore this for my friend's birthday party and was going for a fun, yet elegant look.  I was feeling inspired by Kate Middleton, if you couldn't tell.

For the remix, I wanted something a bit more casual.  I was going for preppy chic, like Kate Middleton meets Elle Woods from Legally Blonde, if you will.
